If you’re new to meal prepping, deciding what to make can be one of the most daunting parts. It can also be the part that becomes a deal-breaker for some people so it’s definitely something you want to nail early on!
Let’s talk a little bit about how to plan what you’ll be prepping:
Firstly, have a good look in your refrigerator, freezer, cupboards and pantry and take stock of what you already have.
See anything that absolutely needs to be used this week before it goes bad? Great! You’ve got some idea of what you’ll be using in your meals already. It’s super easy to get some structure to your meal planning when you have certain items in mind to base some meals around.
Next up, it’s time to get planning. If you’re totally stumped for recipe inspiration, go online and find some ideas that get you super excited about what to cook. Pinterest boards are great for this and as an added bonus, you can pin anything that looks interesting for trying yourself.
Going forward, it’s super helpful if your kitchen is full of staples that can be used in a whole bunch of meals. This includes meats, fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, grains such as rice, quinoa and pasta, proteins, flours, nuts, herbs and spices, seasonings, breadcrumbs, condiments, baking ingredients and dairy products.
You’ll need to buy some of these items each week, but a lot can be bought when they’re on sale and stored for when you need it. So stock up when you can!
